HPS EAGLES STRIKE
ASL Conversion Mirror Match Tournament 2004
The Rules of Engagement
Round One - Each Player will play a series of 2 mirror matches versus 2 different opponents for a total of 4 games. These scenarios are not meant to be played "blind" due to issues concerning playability. Each player will play the scenario as each side versus their opponent. At the completion of the 4 Mirror matches, scores will be tallied and the highest 50% of scorers will progress to round two.
Round Two - The remaining players will play 3 mirror matches versus two opponents for a total of 6 games. At the completion of these 6 games, scores will again be tallied and the final two players will advance to the final round.
Final Round - The last two men standing will play two mirror matches versus each other for the title of champion of the 2004 Squad Battles Eagles Strike Tournament. The scores will be tallied the same as all other games. The winner will receive a Blitz Achievement Medal in gold and the Runner Up will receive a Blitz Achievement Medal in silver.
The Lottery - Each player who completes his obligation to the tournament will be placed in a lottery drawing for a maximum of one entry a piece. The winner of this drawing shall receive a free copy of a Squad Battles game of his choosing. You must complete you obligation to the tourney to be eligible for the drawing. In other words "you can not drop out" if you want a chance at a free game. It doesn't matter win or lose, this is our appreciation to all who honor their commitment to making this work. So even if you don't win the tourney, you still have a chance to win in the long run. The drawing will be done at the completion of the tourney.
Draws- In any event of draws that prohibit advancing to the next round, the player with the most wins advances. In the event both have the same amount of wins are still tied, they will play a single elimination scenario of their choosing. Sides can be agreed on by players or assigned by referee. (me).
Optional Rules - These are to be decided by you and your opponent. You need to come to some kind of compromise concerning them. If an agreement can not be reached, the only optional rule that will be used will be vehicle fire over by the referee's (me) default choice.
Match & Round Scoring (Victorious Player) - A players Win/Loss Ratio will determine advancement. In the event that ties in win~loss record raise issues with advancing to the next round, a victory level system will be used to determine who advances. This will be calculated by subtracting the defeated players first side total versus the victors first side total. Points mean little except in the way of a tie in record. Scores also accumulate for your Round Score (The total of all matches in a round).
Example - Tayete scored 113 as the Germans in Match One. His opponent, War Beast scored 70 as the first side. Tayete is now 1-0 (43) and War Beast is 0-1 (-43). In Match Two Round One Tayete loses scoring 140 as the first side as Hero 33 scores 160. Tayete's Round Score for 2 matches is now 1-1 (23) {43-20}. In Match Two War Beast scores a big win at 180 versus Panzerjaeger who scores a 100. War Beasts' Round Score for 2 matches is now 1-1 (37) {-43 + 80}. Although both Tayete and War Beast are 1-1, War Beast outscores Tayete. In the event of a tie in regards to advancement to Round Two, War Beast advances and Tayete is eliminated.
Ladder Reporting - You may report each scenario of each match as a ladder game at the Blitz. All the scenarios that will be played are listed in the DB, so just go ahead and report each scenario as if it were a normal ladder game. Even of you have a bad tourney, you'll still make some headway on the ladder. ;-)
Keeping Communication, Reporting Match Scores and Deadlines - At the beginning of your match, notify me that you have begun. After the completion of each scenario, send your battle file and password to me (Frank) at echo-four@inlandnet.net. At the end of each match send to the same and notify me you have completed your match. I will tally your scores. Each match will have a deadline depending on the length of the scenario. I will post the deadlines on the Message Board at the Blitz. If a match is not completed by deadline, the current scores will be used. If stalling tactics are proven, the victim will be given a major win + 3D6 bonus points. I will also post opponent matching on the MB as well. This page will also be used to monitor and keep track of the tourney in all aspects, so book mark it.
Eagle Strike Version and Tournament Scenarios - This tournament is being played in Eagles Strike version 1.01. If you do not have the patch, you will find it at http://www.hpssims.com/Pages/updates/up_SB/up_sb.html#Eagles. The scenarios being used are from the Board Game Conversion project/ Eagles Strike Scenario Pack #1 and can be downloaded for free from here: download scenarios.
Surrendering, Dropouts and Cheating - You may surrender to your opponent if you wish in a scenario. Any surrender will automatically grant your opponent an major victory plus a 3D6 roll for bonus points to his score as the scenario stands. This does not disqualify you in any way shape or form other than if you do not have enough points to advance to the next round. This also must be a gentlemanly agreement between players. In other words, if you are getting pulverized, you don't have to play it out if your opponent agrees to let you bow down. No replacements will be made for dropouts. The person involved in a game with a person who drops out will be given a major victory + 3D6 bonus points for the scenario they are playing in both matches. For subsequent matches, the person who is lucky enough to roll for them as an opponent will be given a major victory +3D6 bonus points as both sides. As stated above, anyone who drops out will not be eligible for the lottery drawing. Cheating. Don't do it and if you think some is cheating, don't make a public spectacle about it. Send me the file and I will take a look. This game is pretty random, but some things are obvious. If you're opponent is knocking out Sherman tanks with an MG42 regularly, well you have an argument, but please don't cry wolf just because you are getting your can kicked (it happens to the best of us). If you are caught cheating, you will be expelled from the tournament and ejected from the Squad Battles ladder at the Blitz, the same may be the result if you are a terminal accuser.
