Old Baldy Complex 12 June 1952 Marc Bellizzi
The enemy has held all the key hills in the "Old Baldy Complex" for too long. As part of Phase II of Operation Counter, you are to take 2 companies and seize OBJs Eerie & Arsenal. G Company in reserve, will later follow your attack and be prepared to defend both hills against enemy counterattack. You will have available 2nd Battalion's 81mm Mortars, 180th Regiment's 4.2" Mortars, All battery's of the 171st Field Artillery Battalion (105mm) in Direct Support, 3 x strike packages of Air Force F-80s from the 5th Air Force, and some F4U's from the Oriskany. Division may also provide a salvo from the 155mm battery of the 45th DivArty in General Support to help soften up the objectives. You have such massive support because you are the only game in town - and General Rufner demands success. download

#1- The Road to Wawon - Northern Approaches of Wawon 28 November 1950
The Turks were to proceed on the Kunu-ri road to Tokchon in order to block the Chinese spearhead surging from Tokchon to protect the right flank of the IX US Corps. At 14:30 hours on 27 November, the US signal liaison officer picked up a Corps message in which the Corps Commander wanted the Brigade to turn back to the village of Wawon. Although Immediately ordered his brigade to turn back; the winter sun was declining and turning an entire brigade in a narrow road was a very difficult move. download
#2- Bloody Forest - North of Wawon, 28 November 1950
As the November 28 broke clear, the enemy began to fire on the besieged Turks in Wawon position. Aware of the Turk's determination to defend the approach route, the Chinese took to the wooded area in an attempt to outflank the Turks. In the mid-morning the Chinese forces mounted thrust on the 3rd Battalion's left and fell on the 9th Company positions. This time Chinese forces were more prepared and have some artillery support. The Turkish company did not fully deploy in the woods. Greatly outnumbered and without an adequate defense system; their only luxury was a couple of 105mm Barrels from the neighboring US 25th Division................. download

The contest for Old Baldy became very heated on 26 June 1952. The hill was the high point of an east-west ridge and dominated the terrain to the north, west, and south. Early in the morning the 179th Infantry Regiment vacated its outpost on Old Baldy to permit air strikes and artillery and mortar barrages to be placed on the enemy positions. The Chinese filtered into the vacated works quickly. download

The Hussars
North of Anju, November 5th, 1950, 0600 Hours Wild Bill Wilder
On November 5th, a full scale attack by the Chinese threatened the bridgehead near Chongchon.
On that same day, the Chinese 39th Division crossed over a huge hill separating the 19th and the British and hit the 27th Brigade on its left flank. Their plan was to take the bridge crossing the river and cut off the British, which would allow them to be destroyed at their leisure. They rolled into the valley and attacked the US 61st Artillery Battalion, firing in support of the Commonwealth Brigade. The cannons were protected by Company A of the Argyll Battalion. The fighting became intense as the Chinese just kept coming. One Chinese demolition team was killed to the last man when they had gotten with fifty feet of the bridge. download

Two "pink teams" have been scouring the west side of Nui Ba Dan in search of NVA regulars. Captain Stanton, C.O. of C Troop, 1/9 Cavalry has been shot down in his Loach. Land in the paddies to the south of the wreck and defend the site against the approaching NVA estimated at 2 companies until a Chinook with jacob's ladder can rescue the downed crew. download

The third lift of the day has just left after dropping off the remainder of A Company, 1/7th Cavalry. B Company is already on the ground and 1st Platoon has been sent west of the LZ to locate the enemy. 2nd and 3rd Platoons are also moving out. Just then, the lead elements of the 9th Battalion of the 66th NVA Regiment begin their attack. download

Your cavalry platoon earlier dropped off an infantry platoon for a recon of the area. At the edge of a tree line, two enemy soldiers were spotted to the north in the clearing and the third squad took off across open ground to capture them - right into the enemy ambush. You have been ordered to mount up and return and rescue the lost platoon. download

18 APRIL 1967 1630 Hours Khe Sanh Hills Area of Operation Frank Harmon
Although 2/3 Marines have recently cleared the NVA from their AOR, the 90th NVA is still in the area in force. At 0700, a CH-47 on a routine mission was downed by AA fire in Indian Country. Last comm from the crew stated that 3 crew members had survived the crash, however they may be unable to move due to wounds. Not having the luxury of time 2/3's Battalion Commander has ordered 3rd Platoon, Echo 2/3 ( patrolling the vicinity) to locate the "3 Down River " before the Sun sets and then hold the area until evac can arrive. download

This is a hypothetical scenario used to demonstrate an armoured ambush that Aussie forces undertook with Centurion tanks in Vietnam. The VC are staging a counter ambush after one of their agents discovered what the Australians planned. Australian Objectives - 1) To destroy the sampans moving supplies down river 2) Protect the armour - designated Koalas a protected specie 3) Kill the enemy. Reinforcements can be expected as A company is patrolling nearby. download

Based on a APC troop ambush by the Australian forces against D445 VC Provisional Mobile Battalion. The Aussies did not expect the numbers that showed up and it got pretty hot for awhile. Also it was night and they were out of artillery range. download

LZ Hereford - Operation Crazy Horse
21 MAY 1966 1330 Hours Vinh Thanh Valley, NE of An Khe Tom Konczal
Mortar Platoon, Company C, 1st Battalion (Air Mobile), 12th Cavalry was inserted by helicopter to LZ Hereford, located northeast of An Khe near the Song Ba River. The platoon set up the mortar and fired a few rounds. Instead of digging-in or clearing fields of fire, the men took it easy. Helicopters were inbound when mortar platoon members saw a number of enemy soldiers five meters away, and opened fire with their M16s. As if by signal, other enemy located on a hill about 300 meters away poured a hail of machinegun, mortar and rocket launcher fire onto the platoon's position. The platoon's 81mm mortar was knocked out almost immediately, and the platoon, taking heavy casualties, called for help. download

The 272nd VC Regt was raiding along the Minh Tan road and then fleeing to Cambodia 10 miles away. General DePuy planned to suck the VC into attacking an armored convoy and have airborne cavalry,armoured cavalry, artillery and planes ready to vector in on the ambush site. Artillery, gunships and airforce units are available. Helicopter and airforce units are limited by petrol and will withdraw. download

Following the uneventful conclusion of Operation Hickory II, III MEF ordered a sweep of the southern half of the DMZ with the five battalions that comprised the 3rd Marine Divisions' 3rd and 9th Regiments. At 1115 Hours, 29 July 1967 the NVA detonated a 250lb. bomb embedded in the road that wounded 5 Marines. The explosion triggered a hailstorm of NVA fire. Small Arms, machineguns, mortars and RPG's lashed into the marine column............. download
